Located in the vibrant Mall of the Emirates, Soba House Konjiki Hototogisu offers a glimpse into the world of Japanese ramen, earning its place among the distinguished Michelin-starred ramen restaurants.
Excited to savor authentic Japanese flavors as first-time visitors, we were really looking forward to trying out this place we’d heard about with high expectations.
As we explore their menu, we opted for some classic choices:
Spicy Chicken Ramen: Anticipating a flavorful kick, the Spicy Chicken Ramen left us pleasantly surprised. The spice level, while not fiery by local standards in Dubai, felt authentic to Japanese tastes. The balance in flavors resonated with our palates, considering the 15 years spent in Dubai, where ‘spicy’ often differs. It was a clear nod to the authentic essence of Japanese cuisine, which isn’t typically reliant on intense spiciness.
Mixed Gyoza: Freshness was our primary expectation, and the Mixed Gyoza did not disappoint us. The quality of the ingredients shone through and it delivered on the promise of genuine Japanese dumplings, making for a satisfying addition to our meal.
Lightly Sautéed Edamame with Togarashi: While the edamame itself was good, the seasoning was subtle. However, the size of the edamame was a bit smaller than expected. It was a decent side, though not entirely remarkable.
Passion Fruit Ice Tea: This refreshing beverage was a highlight.
In retrospect, our dinner at Konjiki Hototogisu was a delightful experience, although it didn’t entirely meet our lofty expectations. The authenticity in taste and the quality of ingredients showcased the restaurant’s commitment to traditional Japanese flavors. While it might not have aligned perfectly with our personal preferences, it’s undeniably a must-try for anyone seeking an authentic Japanese dining experience.
